Fourth Annual CBC Midwest Regional Meeting

You can still RSVP for the CBC Midwest regional meeting this Saturday, April 30, at the Crowne Plaza Metro Hotel in downtown Chicago! The meeting will feature a series of short workshops on collective bargaining and academic labor topics, along with a luncheon and keynote remarks by Cary Nelson and Gary Rhoades. We listened to feedback from you about how to improve our regional meetings, and this year’s agenda is a new format, designed to make the most of this daylong event.

Chicago is also the site of one of our current campaigns, the AAUP/AFT joint organizing campaign at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Several faculty activists from UIC will be attending the meeting, and this will be a chance for our newest soon-to-be collective bargaining chapter leaders to learn more about organizing and negotiating from the real experts – you and your faculty colleagues!

To RSVP: Send an email to jnichols@aaup.org. There is no fee to register, but we need a head count for planning purposes.

Accommodation and Transportation: The hotel is located at 733 W. Madison St. in Chicago. The phone number is 312-829-5000, but you can also make overnight reservations at the conference hotel website: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/chish. The conference room rate is $169/night. Be sure to ask for the CBC special rate. Validated parking is available for $25. If you plan to take public transportation from O’Hare or Midway airports, or from Union Station, please be aware that the hotel is 0.5 mile from both Union Station and from the UIC-Halsted Blue line “El” subway station. A cab from Union Station or the “El” station to the hotel will cost approximately $10.

Both O’Hare and Midway airports have airport shuttles. A one-way shuttle ride is approximately $30, excluding tip. You can make your reservation online at https://www.airportexpress.com/.
