2014 Annual Conference Early Bird Rates

Join your fellow AAUP members June 11–15, 2014, for the Association’s Annual Conference on the State of Higher Education (including the One Hundredth Annual Meeting of the AAUP) at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC.

The conference brings together hundreds of faculty leaders from around the country for presentations, panels, networking, congressional office visits, and official AAUP business.

Events of special interest:

Thursday and Friday will feature presentations by faculty members and administrators from campuses across the US. Henry Reichman, chair of the AAUP’s Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure, will deliver an opening plenary on academic freedom and electronic communications.

Other conference program topics include:

  • Collective bargaining in higher education;
  • Faculty working off the tenure track;
  • Assessment and accountability;
  • The corporatisation of teaching and research;
  • Academic freedom; and
  • MOOCs and online education.
Also on Thursday is Capitol Hill Day, AAUP’s annual grassroots lobbying event, which provides an opportunity to advocate for higher education. Members visit their senators and representatives and speak up about the issues that matter most to academia. We supply briefing materials and everything else you need to prepare and present your message persuasively. The day concludes with a reception for participants on Capitol Hill. Network with your colleagues at a Friday evening reception.

Join us at Saturday’s luncheon for a kick-off celebration of the AAUP’s centennial. In addition, the conference includes meetings of the AAUP Executive Committee and Council, the Assembly of State Conferences, and the AAUP Collective Bargaining Congress.

The Annual Meeting plenary on Saturday, June 14, will consider important business items such as investigations of alleged violations of academic freedom and tenure. The conference will conclude Saturday evening with an Awards and Recognition Banquet, honoring our Fifty-Year members, award recipients, and 2013 Donors to the AAUP Foundation. Register today to take advantage of our early bird rate ($350 for members). This special rate expires at midnight EDT, May 15. Regular conference registration ($400 for members) closes at midnight EDT, June 6. After this date, attendees must register on site. On-site registration starts June 11 at the hotel and the registration rate will be $425 for members.

The rate for those currently enrolled in a graduate degree program is $200. Mayflower Hotel reservations must be received on or before Wednesday, May 7, 2014, midnight EDT to receive the special rate of $244.
